CALENDAR OF EVENTS 2008/2009 APPOINTED TIMESSaturday, December 31 - Sunday, December 31 HAPPY NEW YEAR THIS 7TH DAY OF THE 4 MONTH OF THE GREGORIAN CALENDAR, 2008. The first New sliver of the Aviv Moon was sighted in Israel at 6:05 pm Israel time. Hag Sameach Pesach, in advance! The New Moon is not official until sighted in Israel, and so is sometimes later than the tentative dates set for sighting. To know for certain when it is sighted, get on the Karaite New Moon sighting email list at www.karaite-korner.org. Or go to http://www.karaite-korner.org/abib.shtml for a complete print out of this calendar. In either case, any New Moon not sighted on the calculated day automatically defaults to the following day. In either case, any New Moon not sighted on the calculated day automatically defaults to the following day. HIGH DAYS The following days are High Days of the Appointed Times. There are 7 of them. High Days are all Mikra Kodesh (days of public assembly) where occupational work, commerce, and employment is forbidden. - The 1st day of Chag Matzot (Unleavened Bread) - The 2nd day of Chag Matzot (Unleavened Bread) - Shavuot (Pentecost) - Yom Teruach (Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hoshanna) - Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) - 1st Day of Succot (Feast of Tabernacles) - Shimini Ezrei (the 8th day immediately following the 7th day of Succot) SABBATHS The Sabbaths are pictures of the Millennial Kingdom of Yeshua, of our redemption, and of restoration of the earth to its former paradise. The 3 Sabbaths of Scripture always fall in a pattern of 7. The 7th day Sabbath and Yom Kippur (which falls in the 7th Moon) both require rest and cessation from commerce, employment, buying and selling, servile work, and manufacturing. They are also days of Public Assembly. The 3rd Sabbath is a rest for the Land, and cancellation of all outstanding debts. The 3 Sabbaths summarized - The 7th Day Sabbath - Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) which occurs in the 7th Moon - The 7th Year rest of the land. The High Days of Public Assembly and Cessation from work outside of the 3 Sabbaths. There are 6 of these. - The 1st Day of Unleavened Bread on the 15th day of the 1st Moon of ripened barley in Israel - The 7th Day of Unleavened Bread on the 21st day of the 1st Moon of ripened barley in Israel - Shavuot (Pentecost) in the 3rd Moon - Yom Teruach (Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hoshanna) on the 1st day of 7th Moon - The 1st Day of Succot on the 15th day of the 7th Moon - Shimini Esrei (the 8th Day immediately following the 7th day of Succoth) Notice that the 3 Sabbaths, and the High Days of the 7th Moon, are all pictures of the resurrection, second coming, and establishment of Yeshua's Kingdom and rest of the earth during the 7th Millennium from Adam. And it is because of this prophetic picture of the the Sabbath and High Days of the 7th Moon that we know with absolute certainty that the 7th day Sabbath has never been changed to any other day than the day which Yahuweh ordained it from the beginning. THE COMMANDED FEASTS/OBSERVANCES/APPOINTED TIMES THE 7th DAY SABBATH (Every 7th day of the week, "s-turday"). A Sabbath. A day ordained by Yahuweh where no work, employment, commerce or buying or selling of any kind is to take place and where no servile work, manufacturing, or food preparation is to take place. PESACH (Passover, 1 day) It is wise to take the day off to have everything ready in time for the evening Passover meal, but not a requirement. It is neither a Sabbath, or a High Day of public assembly, but some preparation is required, so make sure to put some time aside and plan ahead for this one. Contrary to tradition, the Passover meal is to be eaten the evening before the 1st Day of Unleavened in the privacy of one's home with their own family, or with one or two other families. It is not a public assembly. The public assembly is not until the following night on the 1st day of Unleavened Bread. See our e-book entitled, "On Passover and the Resurrection" for details. - Dusk of 4/20/08 to dusk of 4/21/08, CHAG MATZOT (Feast of Unleavened Bread, 7 days) The 1st and 7th days of this observation are High Days. All High Days are days of public assembly. They are days of rest from employment and commerce, and no buying or selling is to take place on any high days. And though employment and commerce, etc... are forbidden on these two days, they are not Sabbaths or Shabatons, so food preparation and clean-up, and routine work not related to employment or business, is acceptable on the 1st and 7th days of Chag Matzot (Unleavened Bread) . - Dusk of 4/21/08 through dusk of 4/28/08. -The first High Day is dusk of 4/21/08 to dusk of 4/22/08, and the last High Day is dusk of 4/27/08 to dusk of 4/28/08. SHAVUOT (Pentecost, 1 day) This day is a High Day and is a day of public assembly. It is a day of rest from employment and commerce; no buying or selling is to take place on a high day. And like the 1st and 7th days of Chag Matzot, though employment and commerce, etc... is forbidden on this day, it is not a Sabbath or a Shabaton, so food preparation and clean-up, and routine work not related to employment or business, is acceptable on this day. - Dusk of 6/14/08 to dusk of 6/15/08. YOM TERUACH (Day of Trumpets, 1 day) A Shabaton. This day is a High Day and is a day of public assembly. It is a day of rest from employment and commerce; no buying or selling is to take place, and no servile work or manufacturing. - Dusk of 10/01/08 to dusk of 10/02/08. YOM KIPPUR (Day of Atonement, 1 day) A Sabbath and Shabaton. Absolutely no work, employment, commerce or buying or selling of any kind. No servile work, manufacturing, or food preparation is to take place. A day of public assembly, confession, corporate repentance, and affliction of the soul (generally through fasting). - Dusk of 10/10/08 to dusk of 10/11/08. SUCCOT (Tabernacles, 7 days) A Shabaton. The 1st day is a High Day and is a day of public assembly. It is a day of rest from employment and commerce; no buying or selling is to take place, no servile work or manufacturing. - Dusk of 10/15/08 to dusk of 10/16/08, through dusk of 10/21/08 to dusk of 10/22/08. -The 1st High day is dusk of 10/15/08 to dusk of 10/16/08. SHEMINI ATZERET (The Last Great Day, 1 day), A Shabaton and last High Day of the Harvest festivals for the year. This Last Great Day is a day of public assembly, and a day of rest from employment and commerce. No buying or selling is to take place, and no servile work or manufacturing - Dusk of 10/22/08 to dusk of 10/23/08. OTHER BIBLICALLY APPROVED OBSERVANCES CHANUKAH (1 day) Save your presents for Purim. Gift giving was not an original component of Chanukah. Chanukah is a celebration of the rededication of the Temple, and of Yeshua as the "Light of the world", Chanukah occassionally falls at Christ-mass time. Likewise, if Yeshua had been "conceived" at this time and been "born" 9 moons later, He would have been born during Succoth. Chanukah would have been the time to celebrate His conception into Life as the Light of the world, whereas the "Mass" celebrated at Christ-mass is what one does for one who has died, not for He who was born or conceived. - Will be around the last week of November in 2008. More precise date later. PURIM (2 days) Gift giving to the poor is a component of this celebration. Don't make this into a Halloween, this is about celebrating the victory Yahuweh gave us over our enemies, not about dressing up like superman or demons. -Dusk of 3/11/09 through dusk of 3/13/09. |
