150 days of Genesis 7:11 & 8:4
as calculated through various calendars

Artificial Gregorian Calendar (31,28,31,30,31,30,31,31,30,31,30,31) with 365.25 day solar year and one leap year added every 4th year.

Genesis 7:11 to 8:4 = Feb 17 to Jul 17 = 151 days (12+31+30+31+30+17)*1
Genesis 8:5 = Jul 17 to Oct 1 = 76 days (14+31+30+1)
Genesis 8:14 = Oct 1 to Feb 27 = 149 days (30+30+31+31+27)
= 375 days total

*1, The year the flood ended would have been a leap year by Gregorian standard (BCE year 2316) so 151 days would have passed. Had it not been a leap year by Gregorian standard, then the 150 day period would have matched, but only by using the artificial moon length of 28 days assigned by the Gregorian calendar; and the total year, likewise, would have been .25 days shy of one full solar year. However, as is well known, the Gregorian calendar was not invented until several centuries after Yeshua’s death and resurrection, so this is just to provide a contrast and something to compare the correct method against.

For those who go by the solar year of 365.25 days divided into 12 equal parts of 30.4375 day months with no leap years.

Genesis 7:11 to 8:4 = 2-17 to 7-17= 152.1875 days (13.4375+30.4375+30.4375+30.4375+30.4375+17)*2
Genesis 8:5 = 7-17 to 10-1= 75.3125 days (13.4375+30.4375+30.4375+1)
Genesis 8:14 = 10-1 to 2-27= 147.75 days (29.4375+30.4375+30.4375+30.4375+27)
= 375.25 days total

*2, In this example of course you end up with the proper number of days for a complete 1 year solar cycle because the mathematics were specifically designed to cause 12 months to fall evenly into a 1 year solar cycle. However, this falls short on several points. For one, Noah provides several time references that are specific to a knowledge of lunar cycles (i.e. 2-17 [17th day of the 2nd Moon], 7-17 [17th day of the 7th Moon], 10-1 [1st day of the 10th Moon] and 2-27 [27th day of the 2nd Moon]) and uses the specific Hebrew word for moon, not month as the translators have translated it. For two, lunar cycles have never been 30.4375 days long (or 28 days long or 31 days long for that matter), these are completely artificial calculations that have no basis in the actual length of lunar cycles. And for three, even though the year matches, this form of Gregorian calculation (or sun calendar calculation) adds up to 152.1875 days, or 2.1875 days over the 150 day period specified in Scripture to have passed from Genesis 7:11 to 8:4 (2-17 to 7-17).

= 364.0 days total

*3, Even as the solar calendar goes over the 150 day period by 2.1875 days, even so the post-flood lunar calendar falls short of it by 2.5 days. Additionally, the lunar year falls shy of the solar year by 11.25 days.

Having presented these various approaches there appears to be no acceptable solution to realistically resolve how Noah came up with 150 day period from 2-17 to 7-17. However, when we look into Creation science and study the mathematics of ancient astronomy and the religious practices of ancient cultures we are able to solve the difficulty.

Creation science has determined that the reason why our solar years are 365.25 days long is because of the tilt of the earth on its axis and of its resulting wobble in its orbit around the sun. It has also been discovered and mathematically calculated that if the axis of the earth was a true vertical north to south, not only would the wobble disappear from the earth’s orbit around the sun, but the length of time that it would take for the earth to complete its orbit around the sun would be reduced from 365.25 days down to an even 360 days, and the moons orbit would increase from the current 29.5 day orbit around the earth to an orbit of an even 30 days.

This is further supported by ancient cultures that worshipped 360 gods, one for each day of their solar year, as well as by the degrees of a circle which was determined long ago by ancient astronomers to be 360 in number.

If these things are all reflective of the lunar and earth orbits prior to the flood then we should be able to plug these numbers into this passage of Genesis concerning the flood and not only have a perfect match concerning the 150 days from Genesis 7-11 to 8:4, but also a perfect match for the solar year as well.

The Pre-Flood Lunar Solar Calendar of 30 Day Moons and 360 Day Solar Years.

Genesis 7-11 to 8:4 = 2-17 to 7-17 = 150 days (13+30+30+30+30+17)*4
Genesis 8:5 = 7-17 to 10-1 = 74 days (13+30+30+1)
Genesis 8:14 = 10-1 to 2-27 = 146 days (29+30+30+30+27)
= 370 days total

*4, A perfect match to both the 150 day period from 2-17 to 7-17 and to the 360 day solar year. So apparently the effect of the flood (a possible meteor strike of the earth) knocked the earth out off of its vertical axis and out of its orbit, the effect of which possibly did not noticeably change the orbit of the earth until sometime after the flood ended.

The other possibility, and more likely possibly, is that the earth’s orbit was not changed until the day the earth stood still for a day with Yeshua (Joshua) as recorded in Yeshua (Joshua) 10:13 (likely caused by a meteor strike also).

I would suggest that it was this event that changed the orbit, because according to creation scientists, a good part of the flood would have been caused by a meteor shattering a thin canopy of ice that surrounded the earth causing a huge amount of rain to fall to the earth as the ice melted as it fell through the atmosphere to the earth. But an ice canopy being shattered does not seem like it would alter the orbit of the earth.

However, in Yeshua (Joshua) 10:13 a large meteor hitting the earth directly could cause the earth to alter its orbit, which in turn would change the orbit of the moon, and conceivably cause the sun and the moon to stand still in the sky for a day as the earth transitioned into its new orbit. This scenario would also explain how it is that ancient cultures, religions, and astronomers would have had sufficient time to restore and re-popularize the ancient understanding of the 360 day solar year, and 30 day lunar cycles, that were so central to their respective religions and astronomical calculations.
